A Charlotte Mason Learning Cooperative
The Voyage of Life
In 2025, Voyagers Charlotte Mason Learning Cooperative was born out of a desire for community and mutual support. During our time together, we have shared in hymns, psalms, poetry, painters, composers, Sol Fa, Swedish drill, folk dance, fables, handicrafts, nature study, nature walks and nature journaling. It has been a joy to partake in this beautiful "feast" together!
Our membership is made up of Christian families committed to practicing the education philosophy of Charlotte Mason in our homes and homeschools. Some families are new to the philosophy and formal lessons while others are more experienced. We all seek to grow in our understanding of the philosophy by participating in our online study of Charlotte Mason's volumes.
Our name is inspired by the series of paintings by Thomas Cole entitled "The Voyage of Life". We see our journey through discipling and teaching our children as a "Voyage" that they are just beginning. Like the guardian angel in the Cole paintings we as parents are a guide, shepherding them toward something deeper than just a beautiful education; our hope is to guide our children to behold God's world with a deep reverence and awe for all that is seen and unseen. A beautiful education is only the beginning!
What a blessing to know that God is our constant guide, companion and protector as we journey through life unto eternity!
The heart of our cooperative
Our Method
Our prayer is to grow in Christian community and deepen our relationship with the Triune God and His creation.
Led by the Holy Spirit, we strive to implement the educational philosophy of Charlotte Mason, which emphasizes a deep respect for the children seen as "persons" deserving of an education of both intellectual richness and beauty.
Meeting Times
Our sessions are held every other Thursday at a local church in Northern Westchester County from 9:30am - 1pm.
We continue with Nature Walks and Journaling at a neighboring nature preserve from 1pm-3pm. Our time together is mostly dedicated to "common subjects" for Forms 1 and 2. Our short lessons bring much richness to the children's lives and ours!
Mother's Education
Beyond our time together at co-op, we meet monthly for an online bookclub: A Thinking Love, where we study Charlotte Mason's volumes. Much of our understanding of her method comes through a growing understanding of her philosophy which is a necessary component for our co-op members. Together through study and seasonal events we encourage one another to grow together as Mother Teachers.

Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.
-Charlotte Mason
A glimpse into the Charlotte Mason Method in action at our co-op.
“Give the children time to grow. Give them time to think. Remember the words of the poet, ‘The thoughts of youth are long, long thoughts.’ Obedience must be taught; discipline must be wrought; learning must be instilled. Nevertheless find time, make time, if needs be take time from other things, that the child, or better still the children, may have their seasons free from grown-up restraint. Their happiness will be securer, their natures sweeter, their development surer, for the times of unconscious being. Their moral standpoint will be insensibly raised by the unrecognized yet appreciated confidence placed in them; and above all they will keep for a longer period—perhaps in a measure all their lives—the child-spirit which, precious as it is, stands in so great a risk of being lost for ever in the modern rush of life, the eagerness to excel, the struggle for the front rank.” (Reynolds, The Parents’ Review, Vol. 10, p. 158)
